The Opportunity:
This individual will follow detailed instructions for the daily operation of fermentation equipment in the Biopharmaceutical Process Sciences Department. The major responsibility of this position is to execute experiments and deliver material to development groups. Other responsibilities will include trouble-shooting of operational and process equipment, execution of analytical assays, participation in project teams, and maintaining detailed records of batches and experiments.
REQUIREMENTS:
The Requirements:
• BS in biological science or related field or Associate degree in biological science with three to five years of upstream process development experience is required.
• Knowledge of aseptic techniques and bacterial fermentation.
• Experience with design of experiments and generation of scientific protocols and reports.
• Experience with laboratory documentation, general laboratory procedures, and operation of process equipment.
• Must work with and handle potent neurotoxins and in-process samples that may contain toxin-expressing organisms.
• Position requires individual to work with Select Agents. Access to, and use of, select agents is covered by Federal policies. Violation of, or failing to support the intent of, Select Agent policies, regulations, or laws can result in substantial fines and/or imprisonment, as well as civil monetary penalties and are considered grounds for dismissal.
• The candidate will work in the Irvine biological development facilities and therefore must agree to participate in the immunization program.
• Skilled in the application of a subset of biological, biochemical, microbial culture, fermentation techniques and filtration methods
• Must have strong technical writing and communication skills
• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve process and equipment issues
• Must have excellent interpersonal skills and be a strong team player
• Detail oriented with proven organization and coordination skills
